Having returned from my ‘Ramblings’ in sunnier climes to the shock of frost, gales and rain, I have resigned myself to the fact that Winter is finally upon us, and with Winter comes the Christmas Celebrations which are so special to this Village. The lights are on the Peace Tree and looking great, we have just had the best ever Village Christmas Party in the Cade, and by the time you read this, the remaining celebrations will all be over and in what seems like 10 minutes, we will be doing it all over again!.
It has been another busy year in the Parish with Feast week the highlight. This action packed week with services, concerts, cricket and a multitude of events culminating in the Fête, Donkey Derby and Ox Roast, the amazing profits of £10,000.00 plus have just been distributed to groups in the Village and soon we will have to think about next year???
The Institute has been sold at last, and we have seen the improvements resulting from the parking restrictions around the School and the 20mph limit in Caxton End, and we are reaping the benefits of Neighbourhood Watch and Speed Watch in the Village. The Cade goes from strength to strength and is now resplendent with a new village Flagpole.
As always, lots going on and lots still to do. The news that funding maybe available for dualling the A428 is very welcome but when??!! In the meantime, we continue to press for improvements to the junction with Cambridge Road. The other good news is that with grant funding from Awards For All for a new swing, and a further £1,500.00, from SCDC plus £17,30.00 from the Fête and other donations we have decided to continue fundraising with a view to revamping the Play Area and incorporate a Slide – any contributions gratefully received! All in all a great year. Clearly sadness for the families of those who are no longer with us and those less fortunate than ourselves, but joy for living in a vibrant and active community.
Let me wish you all a Happy, Healthy and prosperous New Year and remind you that our PC meetings are on the second Tuesday of every other month beginning with 13 January 2015, 7.15 for 7.30pm at The Cade.
